Frequently Asked QuestionsHow
far is a triathlon? Most of the local triathlons are considered sprint distances.
The national collegiate championships are Olympic distance. The club will
mostly do sprint races.
I’m
not an athlete, can I really do this? Yes, regardless of your current physical condition. Participating in triathlons is an excellent way to lose weight, get in better shape and develop a healthy lifestyle. Most triathlons also have team categories, so you can just do one event and your teammates do the others. Determine what your goals are, be realistic about them, and talk to one of the clubs advisors to help you with a training plan. A good source of getting started information can be located at beginnertriathlete.com. You will need to build on your current level of fitness, whether you haven't exercised in years or already are pretty fit. Just don't overdo it - try not to do too much too fast and get injured. Be careful though.....this sport is addicting! I don't have a bike, can I afford one? If you don't have a bike, you may want to participate in relays by doing the swim or run (or both). Our sponsor (Wood-n-Wave) can help you with bike selection and will give discounts to club members. You don't need a top of the line bike to get started. A used ten speed or an inexpensive mountain bike will work fine for training and for participating in triathlons.
